I have explained Government as a Platform multiple times to myriads of folks. I think Tim O’Reilly has done a very good job in this video of explaining it clearly.
The challenge is now organizing the community. And the challenge now is that the community is not just in the US as the video sort of suggests. The opportunity now is to create Government as a Platform opportunities worldwide. Instead of focusing on the developed world, imagine if we focused on lesser developed areas in need of a solid governmental platform. What if we could build open data movements globally that would allow for transparency in global agriculture prices. What if we could create efficient transportation systems in places like Jakarta, increasing their national productivity and growing their economy based upon, partially, governmental efficiency. What if we targeted billions of dollars of aid at opening data to the masses of developers in India, China, US, Europe that care deeply but have no data to work with to add to the solution.
I speak about change all the time. This kind of change, its time has come.
